FILCO can offer your clients Medicare Supplement, Medicare Advantage and Part D Prescription plans. Most of the plans are commissionable. Please reach out to us if you are interested in becoming “certified” to sell direct or would like us to help enroll your clients on the right plan and earn a referral fee. Either way your clients are getting the expertise they need to guide them easily through a process that can otherwise be overwhelming.

    Some key points to consider:

    • During Medicare’s Annual Election Period (October 15th to December 7th) current Medicare Advantage and Part D members can switch plans and those who are on Original Medicare only or a Medicare Supplement can choose to move into an Advantage plan.
    • AEP is not the only time to sell Medicare plans. Clients already on Medicare Part A & B and their company’s health plan can move to an Individual Medicare Supplement or Advantage at any time. Technically it becomes a Special Election Period due to loss of group coverage.
    • Initial Election Period (when you are first eligible to join Original Medicare) starts three months before someone turns 65, so that is a great time to start the conversation.
    • Your client may be able to change outside of the AEP window with a qualifying event. Our team can speak with your client and see if they qualify and help them enroll.

  • It depends upon the size of your group.

  • If you have fewer than 20 full-time employees, Medicare will be the primary payer, and you will need to enroll in Part B.
  • If your group has 20 or more employees, the group plan is the primary payer, and you can choose to opt out of Part B and enroll later without a penalty if you enroll when you are no longer actively working and enrolled on a group plan with over 20 full-time employees.
  • The Medicare Part B premium in 2017 depends upon your reported income in 2015 and how you filed your taxes (individual or joint return). For example:

  • Individual return earning less than $85,000 / Joint return $170,000 or less, you will pay $134.00/month.
  • Individual return earning more than $214,000 / Joint return $428,000 or more, you will pay $428.60/month.
  • No, but when you choose to enroll, you will have to pay a penalty of 1% of the base premium (currently $34.10) for 2017 that you don’t enroll, unless you had credible coverage during that time. Also, you may only enroll during the Annual Election Period for January 1st.

    A Medicare Supplement plan does just what it says: supplement Medicare A and B coverage. Supplements normally do not include drug coverage. This is also called a Medigap plan. It allows you to see any provider who accepts Medicare.

    A Medicare Advantage plan has lower premiums and normally includes drug coverage. However, you are limited to that insurance carrier’s provider network and will have co-pays for services, much like a group HMO plan.
