Senior Care Update - OEP is back!
Medicare’s OEP is back!
Medicare’s Annual Enrollment Period occurs every year from October 15 th to December 7 th when Medicare Advantage and Part D Prescription plan members can switch plans, drop their current coverage and return to original Medicare or start a new plan. As agents, this time frame not only creates a great selling opportunity, but this year there’s also a New Open Enrollment Period which will run from January 1 st to March 31 st of 2019. Normally one can drop an MAPD plan at this time and return to original Medicare, but this year you can also switch between Medicare Advantage plans or join one for the first time if you currently have Original Medicare and a Part D plan. The main differences from AEP are that it does not allow you to switch between Standalone Part D plans and the member only gets one chance to change within that three month time frame, unlike AEP when you can make as many changes as you like with the last choice being your final.
Bottom line; the new OEP is great for brokers as it gives your clients more time to research and make the right plan choice. Let us help you complete your carrier appointments before the Medicare selling season starts.
